What is Cradle Cap ?
Cradle Cap is a common term for infantile seborrheic dermatitis. Cradle Capisscaly, greasy, crusty patches on a newborn’s scalp. It is a common condition that is harmless. Cradle Cap typically begins within the first 3 months and clears up in 6 to 12 months. The condition is not contagious and does not itch.
What causes Cradle Cap ?
The exact cause of Cradle Cap is unknown. Some experts believe that one factor may be the hormones a baby receives from their mother that cause an abnormal production of oil. Another possible factor could be the yeast that grows in the sebum which causes irritation of the scalp.
How to care for Cradle Cap ?
Cradle cap usually clears up on its own. However, below are some helpful tips about caring for your baby’s scalp :
- Shampoo with a mild shampoo everyday.
- Gently massage your baby’s scalp.
- Use a soft brush to brush your baby’s scalp.
- Over sensitivity or over stimulation by light, noise, etc.
